At Laperruque, we decided early on not to use exotic leathers such as crocodile, lizard or python, animals bred primarily to allow their skin to be transformed into leather. In contrast, the use of bovine or caprine hides, bred for their meat, makes it possible to valorize what is initially a by-product for breeders. The transformation of these hides into leather can be considered a very ancient form of recycling. In keeping with our exemplary approach to local, artisanal production, we decided to focus on materials that have less impact.

We do, however, appreciate the textures and grains of exotic leathers, which is why we regularly work with goat or calf leathers that have been embossed, printed or varnished to imitate their appearance. While certain characteristics are difficult to reproduce faithfully, embossed leathers sometimes have qualities that the originals don’t: a certain robustness provided by the thickness of the backing, a larger skin size or a more affordable price, for example.

This season, we have created a series of objects in calf leather embossed with lizard grain. This leather comes from the dormant stock of a major fashion house, enabling us to re-use this beautiful material originally destined for destruction. Its texture brings relief and sophistication to our winter collection.
