Japanese Baseball Glove Leather
The use of exceptional leathers is at the heart of Laperruque’s artisanal practice. In the past years, we’ve been using the most exclusive raw materials from France, Italy, England or even the United States. This season, we’ve looked to Japan, a country whose craftsmanship and know-how are recognized the world over. While Japanese tanneries produce fine qualities of vegetable-tanned leather, including a beautiful cordovan, we focused on a leather that struck us as unique. We picked a calf leather that was originally designed for baseball gloves, which are widely used in Japan. It is supple and round, with a very soft feel, a matte finish and a very natural look.
Originally developed in a beautiful saffron-yellow hue, the tannery went on to develop numerous colors to match the gloves to the jerseys of the various teams. We’ve selected three summery colors: saffron yellow, terracotta red and Persian pink.
Like a baseball glove, our objects made from this leather will gently patina to take on beautiful colors. And, like the beloved gloves, they’ll last for years, can be repaired and passed on to future generations.
